About Dave…

I really dug the blues (Hound Dog Taylor, Freddy King, Duane Allman), Chuck Berry, and the Beatles when I first started playing around 10 years old. After a 6-month stint at Berklee and a year giggin around Chicago I moved to New York and stayed there 12 years – what a blast! I played with a lot of people, including with my trio at Augies (now named Smoke) from about 1986-1989 with bass players like Lindsey Horner and Essiet Essiet and with a host of other great players. For a time we were the house band every Friday and Saturday night and then we played every Friday night at Augies – a steady gig in New York was a treat in those days. I also played in this really fun blues/jazz/funk band while I was in New York and we played a lot of fun gigs and opened for some of the big names of the day. Somehow I managed to get a degree from New York University while I was hangin out there.

Since coming to the Denver area in 1993, I have really enjoyed the local scene. I have also got the chance to play with a variety of well known national jazz musicians such as Red Holloway, Dr. Lonnie Smith, David Fathead Newman, Plas Johnson, Lewis Nash, Javon Jackson, Joey DeFrancesco, and many others. Some of my favorite gigs have been with local musicians such as playin in the Billy Tolles band for two years, playing with the Kenny Walker Sextet, and playing with the organ trio 3osity with Pat Bianchi and Todd Reid. I really feel the organ trio is special and has charted some new territory in that genre. I also have my own trio and quartet and we play the clubs and festivals. It is a great local scene.

My first CD, Trios Time, on the Synergy Label, did pretty well. New York’s Cadence Magazine wrote "Corbus displays sensitivity and fluidity in his conception" - I guess that’s a good review! My latest CDs are with the jazz organ trio 3ósity and have charted in the jazz polls and received some national and international recognition. I am on several other CDs - I really like the Kenny Walker CD “Terra Firma” that I play on with that band. In addition to playing jazz, I teach graduate jazz guitar students and jazz history at the University of Colorado.
